Abstract

|
Bezoars are concretions formed by the swallowing of material retained in the stomach or intestine. We have experienced 19 cases of phytobezoars for 5 years at Korea University Hospital. The 9 cases were in stomach and other 10 cases were in small
intestine, especially terminal ileum. The 11 patients had history of duodental ulcer and 9 patients among them were previcusty. We treated them by gastrofiberscopy(5 cases) and operative procedure(14 cases). From this clinical evaluation, bezoars
are
more frequently formed in case of previous duodenal ulcer history(11/19) or receiving previous gastric surgery(9/19). The treatment principle of bezoars was surgery, but gastric bezoar is often treated by gastrofiberscopy recently.
